Its been a while, but I’m back and here’s a thought that hit me recently in my daily devotional.
How many times a day are you asked, “How ya doing?” Doesn’t matter. More than likely you answer the way I do, “I’m doing good. And you?” The only thing is, we’re lying. I don’t mean that your life really stinks and your trying to hide it. Your life probably is great. But you’re not doing good, You’re doing well.
Quick grammar lesson:
Well = state of satisfaction or contentment
Good = charitable act, kind action
Remember, Superman does good. You’re doing well.
You see, most of us are doing well (we’re healthy, financially ok, somewhat intelligent) but few of us are doing good (helping others, visiting the elderly, serving the poor, etc.).
Contrary to popular TV theology, God doesn’t care if you’re doing well, but he does want you (and me) to do good. The Bible says if you know what good is and you don’t do it, you’re sinning. That kinda sums up my everyday life. I’m good at not doing bad, but bad at doing good. Confused? Just don’t worry about how well you’re doing, but do lose sleep over how little good you’re doing.
God bless,
TJ
Good to hear your words again! Our family is planning on coming to Chattanooga when you have your first day at Net.Church! The service yesterday at Seacoast was wonderful. The last two weeks they have been talking about the 20th anniversary and it came to be. It is all such a plan of God. Hope you and Vic are doing well. We miss you. Both my boys and Laura, too ate dinner with us last night. MC is enjoying his new house downtown! We love you guys! SC
Nice post, fella.
I’ve made it a habit to respond to the aforementioned question with, “Terrible, how are you?” If someone asks in passing, they usually stop with a quizzical look on their face. Then you can engage in an actual conversation instead of the obligatory “greeting” that everyone uses but doesn’t mean.
Oh, and I’m doing well.
Sherry, I can’t wait to see you guys. I was telling Ryan May about y’all this morning. Can’t wait to see Matthew and Laura in about a month. We’re going to have so much fun.
Ryan, thanks for the comment. I love your idea. I think I may start doing that. Something like, “Pitiful, and you?”
By the way, I’m not doing good. But I am doing well!
Of course I haven’t called you back yet, but I can comment on your blog….sad…and I’m sorry about that. Obviously I’m not doing ‘good’. HA! Dude, awesome blog. I promise I’ll call… Send V our love. Miss you guys.
